Good bye, My love

If you know the sports circles in Singapore well, surely you will know the person that I’m gonna introduce.

Let me present the world’s best-est man to all of you. Princess’ cousin, Ex Captain of Singapore Water Polo Team, he is none other than Mark Koh Wei Meng.

My cousin was a good looking and a charming chap. Although his studies weren’t fantastic but he still managed to excel well in his academic years. Other than that, he was selected to be part of the national water polo team. He was also a personage of historic significance in his school. Everyone knew him for winning countless of medals for swimming and water polo in the national level. His bedroom was filled with numerous medals and trophies. They were from all kinds of sports, ranging from badminton, basketball, running, swimming, etc..too many for me to remember. He was good at all kinds of sports and was extremely impressive in swimming specially. I am always very proud to have such an outstanding cousin.

In our family, everyone swims. My cousin was always a role model to many of us, including my sis and me. I always looked up to him my whole life, to be a national swimmer was my dream. I started to swim at the age of 4, under the same coach as him. I could still remember the coach once told me how terrific my cousin was.

After he left school, he was posted to the commando when he did his national service. Do you not know that commando is the elite of the Singapore Arm Force? Indeed, my cousin was the top-notch. He was the best, in my eyes. Meanwhile, he continued to represent Singapore for water polo and won many medals in world wide competitions.

My sister and I used to stay with my cousin when we were much younger, and my cousin really doted on us a lot. I’d never seen him losing his temper to date; he always gave in to my stubbornness. Gave me, the spoilt brat everything I wanted. My parents were working and they couldn’t look after us. So they let us stayed at my aunt’s place on the weekdays and I’d return to my parent’s place over the weekends. You might not know that princess was a crybaby. I cried to get my ways. I cried EVERY WEEK, not wanting to return to my parents. However, none of the elders would acknowledge my willfulness, and they would force me to listen to them. But there was only one person would grant my wish…...my cousin. Once, I cried all night, wanting to return to my aunt’s place on sat (usually I return on Sunday night). I called my cousin, kept crying, and wanted him to fetch me back to my aunt’s place in the middle of the night. All the elders told him not to bother about my usual nuisance but he didn’t, he really came and brought me back.

He was a romantic man as well; he always gave surprises to us from time to time. He brought us to visit sentosa, underwater world, night safari, the ice carving sculptures, movies, went to restaurant for fish and chips and many more. He bought us many gifts, ‘United Colours of Benetton’ wallets, swatch watches (his fav. Brand for watches), bubble watches, bags, story books, toys, Nintendo and Gamegear (sega) games cartridges. and many more. Mind you, I was only in my primary school and he bought me branded goods. But all the gifts are still well kept and remain unused until today. It wasn’t because I didn’t like them but the reason was that I didn’t bear to use them. I wanted them to be exactly like what they were when he gave them to me.

All thanks to him for giving me such wonderful childhood. He had given me so much so much and yet I could do nothing for him. Four long years, I didn’t show much concern for him, and I didn’t even pay visit to him. Neither did I thank him for all the great things he had given me. I am such a DUMB! I really hate myself.

Tell ya a little secret, when I was still very young, I asked my mom if cousins could get married. I wanted to be my cousin’s bride. I wanted to marry him. *shy*

But he got married with a beautiful wife 3 days after my 18th birthday, which was the first Sunday of the month. Maybe he did it on purpose, maybe he wanted to get married on my birthday, but it would be better to hold the wedding dinner over the weekends. So he chose that day eventually. (Princess’ wishful thinking)

His wife is really a drop dead gorgeous lady inside out. She stood by my cousin over the 4 years when he was sick, took good care of him. I really admire her a lot; she’s a very strong and faithful woman. I saw true love in them. A beautiful one.

I asked god, why did he want to take such a perfect person away, leaving a trash like me on earth to continue wasting the earth’s resources and contributing to more pollutions and damages.

But god said, “Do you remember why you are brought on earth?”
I said, “You want us to grow and mould our character to be Christ-like.”
He said, “Yes! Mark has made it; he has met my standard and its time for him to return to me.”
I said, “thank you, please take good care of him and ease his pain. God, make him walk again in your kingdom.”

Ming ge ge, you are really a great great man. I really regret that I didn’t do much for you, but yet you waited for me. To see you and to talk to you on your last day. I know that you still dote on me and you still remember me.

Ming ge ge, I’m really sorry that I wasn’t there for you. I’m sorry that I’m sucha coward. I hope that you know my heart that I really love you and I really care. I’m sorry. I’m dumb.
